From Connecticut to China...

...to teach, to learn, to explore, and to enjoy.

This site will be a journal of a three-month experience working as an English teacher at the Hu JianQiang International Cultural Exchange Center in Hangzhou, China.

Hangzhou, the capitol of the Zhejiang province, is located 60 miles from the sea along the Qiantang River. The Grand Canal, the world's largest man-made waterway at over 1,000 miles in length, connects Hangzhou in the south with Beijing in the north. Hangzhou is a popular spot for honeymooners, especially because of the beauty and tranquility of West Lake (Xihu). In the early morning, the parks around the lake are occupied by resident performing Taiji and ballroom dancing. These two contrasting forms of exercise are very popular in China. Hangzhou is also very famous for its tea-- green, of course.

With digital camera in hand and a new-found spirit of adventure,  I am off to explore this small piece of the "Middle Kingdom".  I hope you enjoy the journey with me!
